The diary of Caravaggio, a perfect fake straight from the pen of Andrea Camilleri, is reinterpreted by composer Lucio Gregoretti in a very modern score which, however, patently maintains the models of tradition. The figure of the painter, who is constantly hanging in the balance between the sublimity of his art and the almost menacing torment of his impulses, lies at the heart of a work which is also hanging in the balance between the spoken voice of the melologue, and song – at times polyphonic, at times for the soloist – which expresses the “affections” of the complex Caravaggio soul, but also serves as an expressive extension of the music ensemble.
