VOVKA ASHKENAZY, pianoforte
GIULIO MERCATI, harmonium
For centuries the practice of transcribing has ensured a more widespread diffusion of great works, while also offering a variety of sounds (chamber and sometimes even “domestic” music) to music which wasn’t performed every day. Of all the expressions available to us today, those that bring the piano and the harmonium together are certainly the most unusual. Important pages from works by Wagner and Liszt – as well as the third movement of Schumann’s Renana – come alive in the transcriptions executed by August Reinhard, who truly was a prophet for the new instrument.
