A triptych of late nineteenth-century pieces — the famed Élégie op. 24 by Fauré, composed in 1880 and dedicated to cellist Jules Loëb, the ten brief variations on a popular Finnish theme Kultaselle by Ferruccio Busoni dating back to 1890, and the Rondo op. 94 that Dvořák wrote for the trio he formed with Lachner and Wihan — are framed by two expansive sonatas.
Opening the program is the most renowned of the five that Beethoven dedicated to this formation between 1795 and 1815, and in closing we have the rarer Sonata No. 2 (1907) by Robert Fuchs, one of the most appreciated pedagogues of his era.
