At the time of his passing, Eugenio Monti Colla had been working on the script of Treasure Island, based on the Stevenson novel, a classic example of adventure literature, which his company had decided to put on in anticipation of presenting it at New York’s New Victory Theater. The world of pirates, treasure hunts, unexplored islands, traitors and intrigue are all ingredients typically used by marionettes in order to create an imaginary world in which the audience is able to forget about how the marionettes are made and be transported into the action as they identify with these “virtual” actors. The mood created by the mysterious island enables the marionettes to become, once again, the protagonists of a great adventure that has enthralled audiences of all ages around the world.
