After a long day of auditions, a director still hasn’t found a protagonist for Venus in Fur. In the evening after everyone has left, a brash and raunchy woman bursts in and insists on being given an audition. It’s clear from the start that this woman will stop at nothing to get the part. A hilarious war ensues between the director and actress – victim and tormenter – a frenetic exchange of roles, an ambiguous game of seduction, power and sex. The boundaries between reality and fantasy slowly dissolve in this theatrical duel, leaving the director and the audience held hostage by an enigmatic and mysterious ending, suspended in an atmosphere which lies halfway between the mock-tragic brutality of certain ancient tragedies, and David Lynch.
